I actually thought about including it -- I have some thoughts about what might or mightn't happen (because how can you be comfortable asking someone to sacrifice their happiness so you can follow your dream!), but it was long enough as it was, so, you know.

Needless to say, yes, she does eventually end up realizing what her mother gave up, and she's suddenly able to relate to her that much better.
